ADOPT ME

Kylo is now ready for adoption. Here is his foster-mum’s write-up…

“Kylo is 3 years old and an adorable black Labrador who loves his human cuddles sitting on the sofa with you. He is also very calm most of the time at home with just the odd bark if someone comes to the house with a delivery. He is a big strong dog so an experienced dog owner would be advised to help him learn how to be a dog.

Kylo is very well behaved at home and sleeps brilliantly at night downstairs on his own in a crate. He has been trained in the past and will do basic commands especially for a treat. He hasn’t had any toilet accidents while here and will go and stand by the back door when he wants to go out.

He gets very excited when he sees other dogs when out and will pull and bark, he is strong but you can control him with talking to him. I’ve sometimes used a head colar if in a busy area to help control him as I’m not big. I think he just needs help with socialising as he has improved while with us.

Kylo has barked and growled in the past when people have come into the house. People need to be introduced in a careful way with high value treats like cheese and he then accepts them, it is better to meet outside we have found. He has been happy to meet new people in their home or people when out.

Kylo likes to play fetch with his kong but not too much and you know he’s had enough as he stops fetching it.

He sleeps quietly most of the day, near you if he can, with his 2 good walks a day.

Kylo is good on a short and extendable lead on his normal walks but in new places he may pulls so we have used a head collar and harness some times as he is very strong and he walks very well on this. He enjoys his walks and likes to sniff all the smells, we are in a very rural location so normally don’t meet anyone but we do see a lot of animals and he hasn’t wanted to chase anything normally.

He has only been off the lead in our garden where his recall is good but this is without any distractions.

Kylo has been left alone for short periods of time in a crate with no problems after a walk. He has also been left downstairs on his own while I have been doing jobs upstairs with no issues although he will do a one off cry at first to see if you let him follow you but then no issues at all.

He is very good in the car.

He has not been tested with young children but I think they need to be 10 plus as he gets very excited and loves doing zoomies in the garden so he could knock you easily.

He has not been cat tested, but we were told he used to live with a cat.

He used to live with other dogs but he has been happy with us as an only dog.

Kylo is in foster near Repton”.

He will need to stay local to Derby for his neutering to be done by our local vets.
