ADOPT ME

Digby is now ready for adoption. Digby came to us as an unwanted puppy as his owner had returned him his breeder and they couldn’t keep him themselves.

Here is his foster-mum’s write-up.

“Digby is a 6-month-old cockapoo with the most beautiful markings. He is both deaf and blind, but he is a very clever boy and uses his sense of smell and touch to navigate his surroundings.

Digby has settled into our family so quickly; he is the sweetest, happiest little boy and his tail never stops wagging. He is a lovebug and absolutely loves fuss and snuggles. He loves to be close to his humans and he will follow you everywhere you go (so closely sometimes, that you may occasionally trip over him). He can sense when someone enters or leaves the space around him and is very good at knowing where you are. He can be vocal when he can’t sense you, but calms quickly when touched to reassure him you are there.

Digby is a typical, cheeky, inquisitive puppy who likes to explore things with his mouth and will chew certain items that he picks up. He absolutely loves playing with a ball, and he is very good at finding it. He is also food-oriented, which should make him easy to train. Digby is also fully house-trained and will take himself outside to toilet.

Digby is crate-trained when we are out and at night to keep him safe due to his chewing. He is familiar with this space and settles well. We try not to startle him awake, so we wakes gently from the vibration of us opening the crate.

We have 3 dogs of our own, of varying ages, sizes and breeds, but he gets along well with all of them. We do believe he could live with or without other dogs in the home, as he depends more on the company of his humans. He is great with visitors and literally everyone he meets. He currently lives in a home with children ages 11 and 14 and he is brilliant with them.

He is amazing on the lead when out and about and loves to explore new surroundings. He likes to stay close to you and will often bump your leg as you walk to know where you are and is easily guided with his lead.

We believe Digby would benefit from an active home, with plenty of attention and lots of stimulation to keep him occupied. He can also be a little guarded around his food bowl and snacks (to be expected with him not being able to see or hear), so only homes with older, dog-savvy children or without children can be considered. A home with someone around most of the time would be preferred, so he isn’t left alone for long periods of time.

Anyone wishing to adopt Digby will need to be prepared to give him lots of time and attention and put the effort into training him, as he is very young and still finding his way”.

Digby has been for his first vaccination and has been assessed as being a very healthy little pup despite his disabilities.

He will need to stay local to Derby, Nottingham, Burton or Chesterfield for his second second vaccination (and eventual neutering).

Digby is in foster in Coalville.
