Emilia is now ready for adoption. Here is her foster-mum’s write-up…
Emilia is a 6-year-old ex-breeding female.
Emilia has had minimal interaction with dogs and people before coming to us and is extremely nervous. There are two sides to Emilia…. inside the house Emilia and outside the house Emilia!!
Inside the house, shes had to adapt to being indoors. She is not used to central heating and her body has had to adapt. She was not toilet trained, stole food off the table and generally was not used to being inside. She now has manners and doesn’t steal food. She is toilet trained for the majority of the time, she plays with toys, loves cuddly toys and tennis balls and loves lying with you, holding your hand with her paw and getting fussed. She adores being brushed/groomed.
She eats well and knows her own bowl from the resident dogs bowl. She now knows to leave treats meant for the resident dog and that her treats are her own. There was an element of possessiveness and growling over both toys and food. This has now completely gone. She has an understanding now that no one will take away anything from her.
She is confident in the home now and she is far more relaxed in the home. She sleeps well all night and has a strict routine to help with her getting used to a home environment. She has her safe spaces around the house and loves lying in the corner of a room and watching what everyone is doing.
Outdoor Emilia is currently trying to overcome the huge amounts of different sights and smells that come with being outdoors. She has gone from no walks ever to walking 3 times a day. Some walks are easier than others. This is dependant on what she encounters on the walk and where we go. She is very nervous of a huge number of things. Some are improving, some are not! She is now moderately used to cars, car doors, other dogs within reason, other people. She definitely does not like umbrellas, children (particularly screaming ones), pushchairs and anybody running such as a football match.
She is very strong on the lead. We have tried various methods of walking and have found a chest harness the most suitable for her. I am almost certain that the majority of these behaviours will subside with time and regular walks and training. She would thrive from doing some behavioral training once settled.
She would suit a rural environment that is a calm and peaceful home where she could relax and enjoy her retirement. Emilia would be fine with or without another dog. She has looked to the resident dog for guidance when unsure. But enjoys human company more than another dog.
Emilia has recently had her vaccinations. She arrived with an ear infection in both ears, which is being treated daily with ear spray. It is now under control and her medication has nearly finished.
Emilia will need to stay fairly local as she needs to be spayed at one the rescue’s vet practices.
