Izzy is still looking for her forever home. She was adopted before Christmas, but returned three weeks later as they were struggling with some of Izzy’s behaviour.
Izzy went to a new foster home as her original fosters were away for Christmas. Here is her foster-mum’s write-up…
“Could you be just the forever home this pretty girl needs and deserves? Active, committed and prepared to support her reach her full potential and continue to grow her confidence. In return you’ll have one of the sweetest girls we’ve had the privilege of fostering.
Izzy is a beautiful, petite 19-month-old black lab. She is typical for her age and breed; bright, curious, active, an explorer and opportunistic (you’ll need eyes in the back of your head!), snuggly and very cute! She loves to curl up for a snooze on the sofa next to you.
Izzy does have an anxious side and is looking for a forever home that is experienced/committed to supporting her with this, and who will understand if this will always need to be managed.
It has shown mostly around visitors to the house where she will bark and grumble for a while. Izzy will also bark at unexpected noises when she’s inside.
While out and about Izzy has not been reactive to other dogs, but can be initially wary of their owners and again she may bark or grumble.
This all seems to be fear based, needing reassurance that she doesn’t need to be on full alert all the time. You will need to be patient and understanding of this barking while Izzy builds her confidence.
Izzy is strong on the lead, especially at the beginning of a walk, so this needs to be a consideration while it continues to improve. She loves her walks, to sniff and to play chase on the long line or at an enclosed field. She’s a pocket rocket with an ever wagging tail!
There has been some resource guarding over dropped treats and items that she has taken and not wanted to return. It has not been difficult to manage this and avoid triggers, and any flash points have been over as quickly as they began.
Izzy eats in the same room as her two foster siblings, always with a human present, and sleeps in the same room as them too. Izzy would be very happy if her forever home would let her sleep upstairs. She sleeps happily in a bed alongside her foster family, as this is what she knew from her original family too. However, she would settle in her own bed downstairs with a little adjustment.
Izzy could live with other calm, confident dogs, who would enjoy her active, loving nature. Equally she would enjoy being the centre of a dog free household. Due to her resource guarding she would suit older dog savvy children. She needs you to be around for most, if not all, of the day.
Izzy has just finished her season so will need to stay local to the usual areas to enable her spay to happen in the coming months.
Good lucky Izzy, someone is going to be very lucky to adopt you”.
