ADOPT ME

Luna is now ready for adoption.

Luna came to us before Christmas after she had started showing signs of being uncomfortable around the new baby in the home. She has started snapping when near to the baby and was therefore being kept outside. Luna had recently had puppies and had been suffering from severe mastitis, which was most likely an explanation for her behaviour, as well as being kept separate from her puppies. She lived happily with four other children ranging from 4-15 years old and was said to be especially good with their autistic 5-year-old daughter.

Thanks to Ian Reid, who travelled over to get her as an emergency mission, we got her in straightaway as we couldn’t bear to think of her being outside for another night.

She went into foster and was spayed just before Christmas, thanks to her lovely foster-parents getting her in so quickly fo us and she has now recovered from this and been discharged.

Here is her foster-mum’s writeup…

“We’ve had Luna for around three weeks now, and it’s clear what a truly special girl she is. She has a heart of gold and spends about 95% of her time wanting cuddles and kisses.

Luna is still a little nervous when meeting new people, but she’s making lovely progress. She walks beautifully on the lead and doesn’t pull (especially impressive for a lab!). She absolutely loves running around enclosed spaces and her zoomies are something to behold.

She’s very food motivated, which makes her easy to train. We’ve started recall training with her and she’s taken to it with no issues. Because she eats very fast, we’ve introduced a slow feeder bowl, which she uses well. She’s also learned the “Touch” command (open flat palm), which has really helped her overcome her fear of hands.

In the car, Luna may bark at people, and she can be vocal when visitors are coming in and out of the house. At home, she’s happiest curled up close to you — and will happily starfish and take up as much bed space as you allow.

Luna would really benefit from either another dog of a similar age and a home where someone works remotely. We’ve left her at home with Winston (our 9-year-old lab) when we’ve popped out, and she settles after around 15–20 minutes (we’ve watched her on the camera).

She’s untested with children as we don’t have any, but we think she’d love a little human friend. Luna is simply a nervous girl who needs some gentle socialisation and reassurance.

She is house trained. Due to her history, we initially went into the garden with her, but she’s now confident enough to go out happily on her own.

Luna has had the best Christmas ever and will come fully equipped with everything she needs: a slow feeder bowl, water bowl, lead and harness, collar, extendable lead, toys, bed, treats, and food.

Although she’s still a bit unsure about toys, her joyful zoomies more than make up for it. Luna is a beautiful soul who just needs patience, love, and the right home to truly shine. 🧡🐶”.

We would like Luna to go with another dog for support. She has always lived with other dogs and was very bonded to the Labrador she lived with previously.
