We are looking for a foster with a view to adopt home for Ronnie.
Ronnie came back to the rescue through our safety net of lifelong rescue back-up and went back into emergency foster last week. We ideally want to get him settled into a forever home to minimise further upheaval for him so are ideally looking for a home to foster and then adopt him.
Here is his emergency foster-dad’s write-up…
“Ronnie has been with us since Wednesday afternoon after coming back to the rescue through no fault of his own.
He’s a great big friendly, affectionate doofus who loves to snuggle up on the sofa! However he’s rather too big & needs to lose a few kilos.
His recall is amazing and even if he’s going somewhere with purpose, he will skid to a halt and come straight back to us.
He’s excellent with other dogs and has been very respectful of all the dogs he has met, however he is not happy for them to approach him whilst he’s eating and can grumble. This is easily managed though and he’s fine with humans being near him whilst he’s having his meals.
After 30 seconds of excitement he walks really nicely on the lead but he is definitely NOT cat friendly so you need to keep an eye out for any roaming felines. He absolutely LOVES a puddle so we suspect he will love to swim too.
The only negative we’ve found is that he doesn’t have many manners and can be quite vocal although for such a big dog he’s got a very light bark!
He would ideally like to be upstairs with his humans at night and will bark. So far we’ve resisted this and are working on him being comfortable downstairs with his canine buddies.
We suspect he knows what he should be doing but has been allowed to get away with things. He is learning boundaries but this will need lots of encouraging reinforcement to get them to stick.
He hasn’t yet been left alone in the house, but I can’t imagine he would do damage. I do suspect he may bark for a bit and then settle down”.
Ronnie can go with children (6+) and other dogs, but not cats.
Ronnie will need to stay local to Derby, Nottingham, Stoke, Burton or Chesterfield.
