Alfie is the most adorable, loveable, easy dog in every way. He has been with us for almost two weeks and he simply has not put a foot wrong at all. We have had foster dogs before (although this is our first for Yappy Ever After) and we have never had a dog that has been this ‘easy’ before.
During his time with us, Alfie has been very relaxed and loves a cuddle. He has been to our local pub, our local café and visited friends houses with us, all of these he took totally in his stride.
He has met children whilst out and about with no issues at all, but hasn’t lived with them.
He loves other dogs and has met plenty who have approached him and the other dogs have been both on and off lead, and he is fine with them all. He has not had any exposure to cats whilst with us, so I am not sure how he would be with them.
He walks well on the lead with no pulling and very happy to trot along by your side.
Alfie forms a strong bond quickly with people and give him just a few days of love and care in his new forever home and he will be your best friend forever.
He is a little overweight, weighing in at 40.4kg at the vets instead of the 33kg that would be more appropriate for him. Therefore, his new home will have to monitor his food intake (including his treats) so that he can continue to lose this weight and help him be more fit & agile as he ages.
We have started his exercise regime steadily and built it up over the time he has been with us, and he is currently on 2 walks a day with one being a max of 3 miles in the morning and another shorter one late afternoon. He loves his walks and has very quickly settled into a routine in our house, so he knows when he is going out for his walk and he follows me round the house waiting for his lead to come out of the cupboard.
Alfie sleeps downstairs and makes no attempt to come upstairs. He has the run of the house, but chooses to sleep in his bed or on the sofa.
Alfie is 8 years old, so I think a suitable home will be one that does not want him to be the next olympic athlete but will be prepared to give him lots of love and cuddles and enough exercise to keep him fit and healthy.
He would definitely love a calm, quiet home, with someone who is around for most of the time.
Alfie could live with another calm dog as he enjoys dog company, but he could just as easily live as an only dog (as he has with us) and he will lap up all the love and attention of his people.
Alfie needs his second vaccination on 19/11 at Scarsdale Vets and he will also need to be neutered there. We did try to get him in for this, but there are several weeks wait for and we feel it is more important to get him settled into his forever home. The neutering will obviously be paid for by the rescue and we will try to get him booked in as soon as possible.
Alfie is in foster in Uttoxeter.
