Alfie will be ready for adoption just after Christmas. Here is his foster-mum’s write-up…
“Alfie is a stunning 8-month-old chocolate lab who enjoys playing and spending time with his family more than anything else.
When Alfie is left alone, he occasionally settles down, but most of the time he doesn’t settle at all and barks until he is no longer alone. When he has the entire house and company all day, he appears to be more happier. Although he is not crate-trained, we have given him a crate and he happily spends the day in and out of it, with the door only being shut at night.
Since his first night Alfie has adapted quite well and has not experienced any accidents and is very well house trained. At first, he was happy to sleep in his bed in the kitchen, but when his bed was placed in a crate and given his own space, he became much happier and settled down faster.
Due to Alfie tending to jump up in excitement and to greet people and his tendency to pull on the lead, Alfie will require an owner who is comfortable with larger dogs and has the time to work with him on these issues.
His recall is okay although it has only been tested in a distraction-free, secure environment.
Alfie’s ideal home would be with a patient person who can work with him as he does has some issues that need to be worked on (namely barking when left and counter-surfing). He would probably benefit from having another energetic playful friend in the house as he gets bored quite easily and tends to bark to get more attention. He is an amazing dog and deserves a home where he can flourish.
Alfie is the ideal boy if you want a loyal, lively friend but don’t mind a dog who needs a little more training. Whoever is lucky enough to adopt Alfie will have the best companion in the form of a gorgeous, lovable youngster”.
Alfie will need to stay local to the rescue so we can arrange (and pay) for him to be castrated when age appropriate.
Alfie will need an active home where he is not left for long periods of time.
